human traces of activity - group project on Brienenoord Eiland
we found Brienenoord Eiland as an opportune space to collect, research and experiment with materials.
most specifically materials that ended up there as a result of human activity. by unraveling the narratives of their origins, we found out systems of human actions and their impact on the surrounding.
as a visual language we’ve used a method that symbolizes one of the earliest signs of human activity: pit fire technique. exposing materials to high temperatures in a kiln, will possibly result in unpredictable transformations. we use this experimental approach to reveal reamained potential , while exploring the varied depths and concealed narratives within meterials.
to illustrate the impact of high temperatures on the material, we crafted a series of ceramic bodies. these test tiles, often used in ceramic experimentation, became our 'pawns,' each reflecting a distinct facet of Brienenoord Eilland. through this creative process, we bring the Eiland’s diverse areas to life in a tangible and visual way.
