glaze garden
“glaze garden” is a research project that explores how local raw
materials can be used to create ceramic glazes.
offering an
alternative to industrial glazes, which often rely on unsustainably
mined materials sourced from around the world.
in collaboration with
Klein Profijt, a nature reserve in South Holland and two friends, Femke Kortekaas & Sanne Roordink,
the project presents the local landscape through ceramics and
photography.
focusing on naturally occurring, locally available materials, such as
pruning remains and clay,
the project proposes a more holistic
approach to glaze making through the concept of a “glaze garden” :
a
sustainable system in which glaze materials are cultivated in ways
that respect and maintain the natural balance.
this approach invites a
more conscious, place-based practice that fosters connection
between maker, material and ecosystem.
the resulting glazes carry
the mineral signature of the landscape, offering a visual expression of
their material origin.
